The 22-year-old defender of Ghanaian descent has now opened up on his exit from his boyhood club to the German giants during the summer transfer window
English-born Ghanaian defender Jarell Quansah has shed light on his transfer move from Premier League giants Liverpool to Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen.
The promising centre-back swapped the English top-flight for the German elite division contest in a deal worth up to £35m after appending his signature to a five-year deal during the summer.
However, the Ghana-prospect has now elucidated the motive behind his move to his current employers, with first-team actions playing a key role over his decision in ditching his boyhood club.
The 22-year-old told Sky Sports: ''As a young centre back, you need games to improve. I have always been learning from the best players around me.
"It has been so good for my career but as a young centre back, I'm 22 turning 23, I am going to be needing hundreds of games to be where I want to be. Overall, that is why the decision was made. That is why going abroad was best for me."
He has so far featured in 9 games for Bayer Leverkusen across all competitions in this current 2025-26 campaign.
Given his Ghanaian heritage, he still remains eligible to play for Ghana on the international stage despite playing for the England national youth teams.
