Daniel-Kofi Kyereh has expressed deep gratitude to SC Freiburg’s U23 team after making his return to competitive football following a long injury layoff.
The Ghana international admitted he was pleasantly surprised by the warm reception he received from the reserve side as he worked his way back to full fitness after a difficult spell on the sidelines.
“I am happy about my time in Freiburg. The team has always supported me, and recently I was taken aback by how the lads in the U23s welcomed me,” Kyereh said during his farewell ceremony after confirming his departure from the Bundesliga club this summer.
Kyereh’s time at Freiburg was heavily disrupted by a serious ACL injury sustained in 2023, which kept him out of first-team action for an extended period.
The 30-year-old eventually returned to action in April 2026 with Freiburg’s U23 side, where he featured in seven matches as part of his recovery process.
Despite the setback, he showed encouraging form, contributing two goals and two assists as he gradually rebuilt fitness and confidence.
His performances for the developmental side formed a key part of his rehabilitation before both parties agreed to part ways at the end of the season.
Kyereh will officially leave Freiburg on June 30, 2026, bringing an end to his four-year spell with the Bundesliga club.
The former FC St. Pauli midfielder is now expected to seek a new club where he can secure regular playing time as he targets a return to the Ghana Black Stars setup ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
