Ghanaian-born striker, Bernard Tekpetey has confirmed Bulgaria's approach to get him naturalize for them and added he isn't in a rush to take any decision at the moment.
The 26-year-old has been playing in the Bulgarian topflight for four years and has been outstanding having established himself as one of the best in the championship.
He joined current champions Ludogorets Razgrad on an initial loan deal from German side Shalke O4 before subsequently securing a permanent stay at the Huvepharma Arena with his impressive exploits.
In the just ended 2023/24 football season, the bulky striker contributed 25 goals in all competitions; having scored 15 and created 10 in 49 appearances.
In an interview on Joy FM's Game Plan, the ex- Unistar Academy striker has confirmed an attempt from the Bulgarian FA and also added he's got their passport which will make the process much more easier.
However, he just can't accept but will have to deliberate that with his family first before he takes a final decision.
“I think it might happen because I have a Bulgarian passport where I can switch to play."
“They contacted me, but I told them I need to discuss this with the family first. I come from Ghana, and I cannot do anything, and my mom is going to be unhappy. First, I need to speak with my mom.
“I know my mom loves and wishes for me to play in the national team. Even when my name was in the AFCON provisional squad and someone told her, she was happy.
“I just didn't want to discuss at the moment with my mom. I just want to stay calm, play my game and see what is going to happen next.”
Bernard Tekpetey earned his Black Stars call up in 2017 and has since made only two appearances with the senior national team.
