While the vast majority of us have been tuning in and watching the Ghanaian Premier League’s return with glazed eyes, there is still something not quite right. The obvious omission of supporters and the atmosphere and intensity that follows is having an impact on football as a spectacle, sure. That we all miss.
But we also miss our team, our players and the Premier League. Oh so painfully much. Seeing actual live football has provided welcome respite from our regular weekend Netflix and pub binges, but we're still missing the highs and lows of backing our own respective clubs.
In the case of Hearts, it's been predominantly miserable lows this season, but with elite league football not gracing our screens for almost a month now, it's best to focus on the positives for when football eventually resumes.
What are those for the Phobians? Is there actually anything to look forward to when they take to the turf once more? Believe it or not, yes there is. Some aspects of the club and squad are genuinely to be excited for.
Here is what we expect this weekend;
How the Break May Aid Seydou Zerbo’s Plans
Few days after taking the Kotoko job, the Burkinabe gaffer was faced with a tumultuous task of guiding the Porcupine Warriors into the group stage of the CAF Champions League. He missed out on qualification as his Ghanaian side got eliminated by Burkina Faso's RC Kadiogo in Kumasi. He has played two games in the league- winning one and drawing the other.
During that time, he's been unable to assess his squad accordingly due to the hectic continental engagement, so this time away from the training pitch will have offered a valuable period of reflection. And while it will still be a huge ask to win the league this season, the makings of a new-look Kotoko side are already in effect. With players also returning from injury he will be closer to fielding the best lineup at this disposal, backed by fresh ideas and a new outlook on what is the best possible strategy to achieve their goals this season.
Will King Faisal slump continue?
King Faisal Babes will be playing against
Asante Kotoko SC at the Baba Yara Sports stadium on. The Insha Allah lads are having a torrid start to their premiership campaign. Out of the three matches played, they have lost all putting new coach, Jimmy Cobblah in a difficult situation.
Kotoko come off the back of a great showing against Accra Hearts of Oak. Though, they drew, they gave a good account of themselves are thus the bookmakers’ favourite to carry the day and deepen King Faisal’s woes.
Fortune could favour Berekum Chelsea if they are brave
Given that Berekum Chelsea are leading the league log, it does slightly unfair to ask whether they are capable of beating Legon Cities at the Elwak park.
They’ve drawn one on the road and trek Accra this weekend to play the Royals. Christopher Enning’s side produced eye catching performances in the league before the break and are currently 1st on the table with 7 points. Enning tends to start with one striker but perhaps he can afford to be a bit more adventurous when they play Legon Cities.
Slavko Matic to win over the Hearts faithful
Football fans have a huge influence over a the success and failure of a football club. Hearts’ new Serbian gaffer will get to know the clubs so as to drum home support. Fans cannot be expected to respect a person simply because they bear the title of “coach.” We should not expect fans to automatically respect a coach based on his reputation.
Respect is earned day in and day out by. The way Matic interact with the players, technical team, and fans will be very crucial in his success at the club
