Black Starlets head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum has expressed elation after leading the Black Starlets to qualify for the next CAF U-17 Cup of Nations tournament.
The Black Starlets haven’t been at the continental showpiece for eight years now having last appeared in 2017 where they lost to Mali in the final to clinch silver.
They have since not made it to the competition and their 2-0 win over Nigeria last Tuesday in the ongoing WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship has now secured them qualification to the next edition which will be held in Morocco in 2026.
Speaking after the qualification, the former Asante Kotoko gaffer was excited to have accomplished the main task given to him which is to book AFCON spot and is now focused on winning the WAFU Cup.
“I was told the main aim is to qualify the team to the next AFCON and Im very happy to have done that.
“We lost our structure against Togo and Ivory Coast, but we learned from our mistakes, and our game against Niger was a make-or-break for us, and we were able to do the job.
“The video analyst also pointed out where we needed to improve, and we did exactly that, and we were able to win and make it to the final," he told Asempa FM.
The Black Starlets will square off again with host Côte d’Ivoire but this time in the final of the competition this weekend at the Stade Charles Konan Banny.
