Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has expressed delight with his team’s commanding 3-0 victory over Egypt, describing it as a significant step toward securing qualification for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The Swedish coach praised his players’ performance in Ismailia but acknowledged that the team showed signs of rust after spending some time away from competitive football.

“You can see that we haven’t been together for a while; it doesn’t connect like it did a couple of months ago,” Bjorkegren admitted. “But I do think the energy was there. We did many good things, and in the end, we performed overall well. To win a difficult away game 3-0 is fantastic.”

Bjorkegren added that the result puts Ghana in a strong position to complete their qualification mission.

“The result is amazing. It gives us a great advantage and puts us in a good position to make sure that we reach the next WAFCON,” he said.

Ghana took charge of the first-leg encounter with goals from Doris Boaduwaa, Mary Amponsah, and Grace Asantewaa.

Egypt started brightly but failed to trouble goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan, allowing the Black Queens to gradually impose their rhythm on the game. Boaduwaa’s late first-half strike settled Ghana’s nerves before Amponsah and Asantewaa added two more to seal the convincing win.

The Black Queens will host the return leg in Accra on Tuesday, needing to avoid defeat to book their place at the 2026 WAFCON in Morocco.
