Sudan captain Mohamed Abdelrahman has described Senegal as a formidable and highly experienced opponent, insisting his side will need courage, unity and unwavering focus to stand a chance in their Round of 16 clash.
The 1970 champions secured a place in the knockout stage after finishing among the best third-placed teams in the group phase, a significant achievement that has lifted spirits back home. For many Sudanese supporters, the team’s progress has offered a rare moment of pride and togetherness amid ongoing hardship and uncertainty.
Reaching the Round of 16 for the first time since 2012 holds deep significance for Abdelrahman, who views the milestone as a reflection of his team’s resilience and collective spirit on the continental stage.
Speaking to CAFonline.com, the skipper acknowledged the scale of the task ahead but stressed his side’s determination to rise to the occasion.
“It will be a very difficult match by all standards. We know our opponent well,” Abdelrahman said. “Senegal are a strong and experienced team with a rich history in the competition.
“The key to victory is our determination, perseverance, belief in ourselves and our desire to go far in this tournament.”
Sudan will now look to channel that belief and unity as they prepare to face one of Africa’s heavyweights, hoping to extend their fairytale run and write another memorable chapter in their AFCON journey.
