Laryea Kingston’s Uganda U17 side received a rapturous reception at Entebbe International Airport after securing qualification for this year’s U17 World Cup in Qatar.

The former Ghana winger guided the Cubs to the global stage with a penalty shootout win over Ghana’s Black Starlets in the playoffs of the U17 Africa Cup of Nations. It marks Uganda’s return to the top level of U17 football.

Hundreds of fans turned out to greet Kingston, his coaching staff, and the players as they arrived home.

The celebration was also attended by senior figures in Ugandan football, including FUFA President Justus Mugisha, Exco member Ronnie Kalema, Uganda Youth Football Association Chairman Robert Kiwanuka, and Fred Katende Malibu from the FUFA President’s office.

Plans are already underway for the Cubs’ World Cup preparations, with Kingston set to remain in charge for the tournament in Qatar later this year.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s U17 team, the Black Starlets, are expected back in the country soon. A new squad will convene to begin preparations for the WAFU Zone B qualifiers next year.
