FIFA has announced that Ghana will use Bryant University in Rhode Island as their team base camp during the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Black Stars will stay and train at the private university in Smithfield, Rhode Island (near Boston) during the tournament, which will take place in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Bryant University will be Ghana’s main training and working base during the group phase, giving the players, coaches and staff a place to prepare for matches.
Ghana are in Group L and will start their World Cup journey against Panama in Toronto. They will then face England in Boston before playing Croatia in Philadelphia.
Choosing a base in the smallest U.S. state is expected to help reduce travel before Ghana’s game against England, which will also be played in the city.
FIFA says Team Base Camps are very important because they become a team’s “home away from home” during the tournament.
“Team Base Camps are an integral part of the fabric of any FIFA World Cup,” FIFA World Cup 2026 Chief Operating Officer Heimo Schirgi said.
“They are where teams put down roots, train and recuperate, and experience the day-to-day rhythms of the tournament.”
The process of choosing camps started in 2024, with qualified countries selecting from over 60 training base options across North America after the World Cup draw in December 2025.
Out of the 48 countries taking part, 39 picked bases in the United States, seven chose Mexico and two selected Canada.
Bryant University will now become the Black Stars’ main camp as Carlos Queiroz’s team aim to do well and qualify from a difficult group that includes Panama, England and Croatia.
Ghana are currently in Cardiff preparing for their friendly match against Wales on June 2 before travelling to North America for the World Cup.
