The Egypt Football Association (EFA) have disclosed that they will only issue a call up to Mohammed Salah for the March international break if he plays any game for Liverpool in the next two weeks.
Egypt will participate in the Winsunited Cup, which is a biannual association football tournament, during the March break in the UAE alongside Tunisia, Croatia, and New Zealand.
The Pharaohs will clash with New Zealand in the semi-finals on March 22 in what will be Hossam Hassan’s first game in charge of the team.
Hassan called up seven foreign-based players for the camp, led by Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, who has been struggling with injuries since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Salah has featured in only two games for Liverpool since the start of the year and the Reds have tried to convince the Egyptian FA to exclude their star man from the March international break.
Speaking on the Liverpool star, EFA board member Ehab El-Komy said: “The coaching staff, the Football Association, and the Egyptian fans are all keen on Salah’s safety.
“If he is not 100% ready, the national team coaching staff will be even more cautious about his presence in the upcoming camp.
“We have two weeks ahead of us and his recovery may be complete. If Mohamed Salah is ready, we will be keen on his presence. Otherwise, a different talk will be held at the appropriate time.
“Even up to the date of the international agenda, if Salah plays in any match with Liverpool, he will be ready and we will call him up to join the Egyptian national team.
“We want things to be calm, especially since Hossam Hassan wants all players to be present for Egypt’s strong start under his leadership.”
