Berekum Chelsea will return to training on Monday, April 20, even as psychological and medical checks continue for some players and staff following the robbery attack that claimed the life of Dominic Frimpong.
The club stopped all activities after the April 12 incident, when armed robbers attacked the team bus along the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso road in the Nyinahin District as the team travelled from Samreboi to Berekum. Frimpong later died from injuries he suffered during the attack.
Speaking to Citi Sports, the club’s Public Relations Officer, Isaac Obeng, said some members of the team are still receiving support, while others have been cleared to gradually return to training.
“Some of the players and staff are still undergoing assessments, but others have been cleared to return to training step by step,” Obeng said.
He added that the Ghana Football Association has postponed Berekum Chelsea’s Matchday 30 fixture to May 6 to allow the team more time to recover from the traumatic experience.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about the safety of teams travelling for domestic matches, with many calling for stronger security arrangements.
Police investigations into the attack are still ongoing, with two suspects, including a suspected gang leader, already arrested in connection with the case.
