Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has blamed weak leadership for the recent decline of Ghana’s two biggest clubs, Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko.
The board member of Hearts of Oak made the remarks in an interview with Graphic Sports, where he said the problems facing both clubs go beyond the players on the pitch.
“The challenges facing Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko are fundamentally a leadership responsibility,” Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe stated.
He explained that the recent struggles of the two traditional giants are mainly due to failures in leadership and management at the top level, rather than a lack of playing talent.
According to him, the decline of both clubs points to deeper structural problems that have affected their performance in the Ghana Premier League and in continental competitions.
Once dominant forces in Ghanaian football, Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko have found it difficult in recent seasons to maintain consistent results, as newer clubs continue to challenge their dominance.
Their struggles have also been clear in Confederation of African Football inter-club competitions, where early exits have become more common compared to their past successes on the African stage.
Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe added that without stronger, more accountable and forward-looking leadership, efforts to return the two clubs to their former glory may continue to face challenges.
