Medeama SC have strongly denied reports linking them with a move for Samba O’Neil, saying their full focus is on winning a historic domestic double.
Reports in the Ghanaian media claimed Medeama had agreed a one-year deal with the Asante Kotoko captain and his representatives, Pro Sports. The rumours included details of a reported $30,000 signing-on fee and a monthly salary of $4,000.
With O’Neil, a Congolese international, current contract at Kotoko close to ending and no talks yet over a new deal, the story quickly spread.
But Medeama have moved quickly to reject the claims. Chief Executive James Essilfie described the reports as completely untrue and said the club has not held any talks with the defender.

“It’s news to us. We’re also hearing these claims in the media,” Essilfie told GhanaSoccernet.
“Let me put it on record that it’s not true. We don’t want to dignify it. We’re just focused on winning the double. I will urge our supporters to disregard these false reports and channel their energies into supporting the team to victory.”
Medeama’s response shows a club determined to avoid distractions at a key point in the season. They currently lead the Ghana Premier League table by two points with five matches left to play.
They have also reached the semi-finals of the MTN FA Cup, keeping alive hopes of winning both major domestic trophies for the first time in the club’s history.
