The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, has reiterated the FA’s commitment to transforming the Black Stars into one of the top teams in Africa.

After a challenging 2024 campaign, where the four-time African champions secured only two wins in 10 matches, Ghana’s troubles were compounded by their failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), marking the first time in two decades they missed the tournament.

However, the Black Stars have started 2025 on a positive note, securing back-to-back victories against Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers during the March international break. These dominant wins have boosted Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 tournament, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

"We want to continue our rebuilding process and make the team one of the best in Africa,” Asante Twum told GhanaFA media. “It won’t be easy, and it will require many friendlies, engagements, and competitive matches.”

To further the team’s development, the Black Stars will participate in a four-nation tournament in May, featuring Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, and Nigeria. The competition will be held in London, with Ghana facing Nigeria in their opening match on May 28.

"We were fortunate to receive the Unity Cup proposal from Afro Sports, and we expressed our interest in it,” Asante Twum explained. “Our primary focus is not on the results, but on building the team for the future.”

In positive news, Ghana has moved up one spot in the latest FIFA rankings, marking their first improvement since July 2024.
