Ghana Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has emphasized the need for both Inaki Williams and the national team to collaborate more effectively to address the striker’s struggles in front of goal.
Williams, who has been a consistent performer for Athletic Bilbao in La Liga, has found it difficult to replicate that form with the Black Stars, scoring just one goal in 17 appearances.
Speaking ahead of Ghana’s 2025 AFCON qualifier against Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium on Thursday, September 5, at 16:00 GMT, Addo highlighted the importance of adapting the team’s play to suit Williams’ strengths, while also encouraging the player to become more versatile.
“The players have to adapt to him as well. We know what his strengths are—running deep, threatening the last line, pushing defenders back—and we need to utilize his qualities more. It’s always a two-way street; he can make his game more flexible, but we also need to focus on putting him in the best position to succeed,” Addo stated.
At 30 years old, Williams has been a vital asset for Athletic Bilbao, but his goal-scoring woes with the Black Stars remain a concern as Ghana looks to secure a strong start in their AFCON qualifying campaign.
