Former Black Stars luminary, Mohammed Polo, has offered counsel to Andre Ayew, suggesting he contemplate retirement from the national team in light of his exclusion from the latest squad.
The Le Havre player found himself omitted from Otto Addo’s selection for Ghana’s upcoming 2026 World Cup Qualifiers against Mali and Central African Republic.
Polo, speaking in an interview with Connect 97.1FM, stated, “It’s up to Dede to decide to retire or not, but I will personally advise him to retire because he has done enough for the nation.” Polo commended Ayew's illustrious 15-year tenure with the Black Stars, acknowledging his invaluable contributions.
“In life, if your time is up, it doesn’t matter what you do. Dede has done a lot for our national teams. What he has done is for prosperity to talk about,” Polo added, reflecting on Ayew's legacy.
With Ayew absent, Thomas Partey will assume the captaincy for the pivotal matches against Mali and Central African Republic.
Ghana currently holds three points from two games in group I, with Comoros leading the group with 6 points.
