Wales boss Craig Bellamy has spoken highly of Ghana’s squad ahead of their first-ever meeting with a senior African side at the Cardiff City Stadium on June 2, 2026.

Speaking after naming his 26-man squad, Bellamy admitted the World Cup-bound Black Stars will provide a “reasonably tough” test for his team as they continue rebuilding.

He said the match is a good benchmark for Wales as they gear up for the UEFA Nations League A campaign, especially after missing out on the World Cup in the play-offs.

Bellamy also noted that Ghana’s recent managerial change adds an extra layer of unpredictability. The Black Stars recently brought in experienced Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz, who has gathered a 28-man group at Dragon Park in Newport. The squad includes returning players Baba Abdul Rahman and Ernest Nuamah.

“Ghana have qualified with some really good players,” Bellamy said. “They have a new manager, and so does Romania, so it’ll be interesting to see how they approach it. We’ll need to adapt. Two tough opponents, but two good games to look forward to.”

Wales’ coaching team is already reviewing footage of both Queiroz’s setup and Romania’s new coach Gheorghe Hagi ahead of their second friendly in Bucharest on June 6.

For the West African natio, the Cardiff game is a key part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, where they will take on England, Croatia, and Panama in Group L.
