Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo, has voiced his disappointment following Ghana's 1-1 draw with Niger in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier at the Municipal Stadium in Berkane, Morocco.
Stade Rennais defender Alidu Seidu gave Ghana a glimmer of hope with a powerful strike in the 44th minute, assisted by West Ham United midfielder Mohammed Kudus. Seidu’s goal broke through Niger’s resilient defense, putting the Black Stars in the lead.
However, Niger equalized in the 81st minute when Oumar Sako capitalized on a Moussa Kassa Moudou assist, leveling the score and denying Ghana a much-needed win.
Despite the Black Stars' efforts to push for a second goal, they were unable to secure victory, leaving them winless after two matches in the qualifiers.
Reacting to the result, an exasperated Otto Addo shared his disappointment: "Definitely not, I am not satisfied at all. I am really disappointed, to be honest. We talked and trained on set pieces, we discussed situations that could happen, but the way we defended in the last 10 minutes was really, really bad. I think in general we had the game under control. We allowed some counter situations where we didn’t close the gaps well, but once we got the lead, I thought things would get easier."
The draw puts Ghana under increasing pressure as they prepare for a crucial double-header against Sudan, coached by former Black Stars boss Kwesi Appiah. The upcoming matches will be pivotal for Ghana’s hopes of progressing in Group F.
