Ghanaian international, Tariq Lamptey, has marked a triumphant return to training with Brighton & Hove Albion after successfully recovering from a lingering injury.
The 23-year-old had been sidelined since November of last year, following an unfortunate incident during a match against Nottingham Forest where he picked up the injury. Lamptey's early exit from the game, in the 35th minute, led to a period of rehabilitation and recovery.
This setback resulted in Ghana's coach, Chris Hughton, making the difficult decision to exclude the former Chelsea defender from the final 27-man squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), despite his initial inclusion in the preliminary 55-man squad. The decision was primarily influenced by Lamptey's ongoing recovery, with concerns that he wouldn't sufficiently recuperate in time to participate in a significant number of matches.
However, in a positive turn of events, Lamptey rejoined group training on Thursday, engaging with his Seagulls teammates in a promising return to the pitch. While the exact timeline for his competitive comeback remains uncertain, the sight of Lamptey participating in group training is undoubtedly a reassuring sign for both the player and Brighton & Hove Albion fans.
The talented right-back, under the guidance of manager Roberto De Zerbi, had previously made seven appearances in various competitions for Brighton during the ongoing 2023/24 season. As Lamptey continues his journey back to full match fitness, his return to training signals a hopeful chapter for both his personal career and the collective aspirations of Brighton & Hove Albion.
