Ghanaian forward Kwabena Owusu has completed a move to Israeli Premier League outfit Maccabi Bnei Reineh in the ongoing summer transfer window.
The 28-year-old joins as a free agent after parting ways with Hungarian champions Ferencváros, where he won three league titles but spent much of his time out on loan in Turkey’s second division.
In a statement confirming the transfer, Bnei Reineh welcomed their new signing:
“Maccabi Reineh Club announces the signing of Ghanaian striker Kwabena Owusu, 28 years old, who can operate both as a winger and a striker. Owusu arrives from Hungarian side Ferencváros, having previously played in Turkey’s second division and for Azerbaijan’s Qarabağ.”
Owusu brings a wealth of experience to the Israeli topflight, having featured in Spain, Azerbaijan, Hungary, and Turkey over the past decade. The club highlighted his versatility and qualities, describing him as a fast, technically gifted forward with strong penetration and attacking instinct.
“The Ghanaian striker came through the youth academy of Spanish club CD Leganés, has represented the Ghana national team, and has played across several European leagues. Standing at 1.82m, he is expected to add strength and quality to our attack,” the statement added.
Owusu, who was part of Ghana’s squad at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, is expected to play a key role in bolstering Bnei Reineh’s frontline as they aim for a stronger campaign this season.
He could make his debut this weekend when Bnei Reineh take on Hapoel Petach-Tikva in the Israeli Premier League.
