Dutch-born Ghanaian defender, Jeremie Frimpong scored twice as Bayer Leverkusen thrashed FSV Mainz O5 3-0 in Matchday 4 of the German Bundesliga on Saturday afternoon.
The right-back scored in the 39th and 41st minutes, respectively, to help Bayer Leverkusen to get their first points of the season away at the MEWA Arena.
Bayer Leverkusen broke the virginity of the game through Exequiel Palacios’s 29th minute effort from the edge of the box which deflected off Mainz 05 forward Jonathan Burkardt.
Frimpong, 21, took advantage of two defensive blunders by the 05ers as he netted a quickfire brace, first tapping in Moussa Diaby’s square ball after running in behind and then rounding Robin Zentner after a mix-up at the back to slot home.
In the second half, Mainz boss - Bo Svensson made a triple change at the break as he aimed to overturn the three-goal deficit with a much improved performance by the hosts as they controlled the play and took their foot on the gas but found no way through a well organised Leverkusen backline
Frimpong was born in Amsterdam to Ghanaian parents and is eligible to play for the Netherlands, Ghana and England - his family moved to England when he was seven years old.
He began his club career at Manchester City at the age of nine and progressed through the club's youth ranks and transferred to Scottish giant Celtic in 2019, winning the Scottish Premiership, Scottish League Cup and Scottish Cup at the end of the 2019/20 football season.
