The 27-year-old lateral stopper of Ghanaian heritage has completed his move to the English third-tier side ahead of the new football campaign
English-born Ghanaian right-back Sean James Kweku Clare has joined English League One side Leyton Orient FC on a three-year deal, the club have confirmed.
The ex-Heart of Midlothian FC defender is joining the Gaughan Group Stadium campaigners from fellow lower division side
Wigan Athletic FC this summer.
An official confirmation over his deal read; " Leyton Orient are delighted to confirm the signing of experienced full-back Sean Clare from Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee."
"The 27-year-old has made 285 professional appearances in his career to-date, with 171 of those coming in Sky Bet League One. He has signed a three-year contract at Gaughan Group Stadium."
"Clare grew up in Hackney and he is very excited about the next chapter of his career."
Right after appending his signature to the deal, the Ghana-prospect stopper said via his new club official website; "I’m really happy to be joining the club. I grew up locally and this feels like a great time to be joining Leyton Orient."
“I know a lot of the lads already and they have all had good things to say about the club and the gaffer. The club had a good year last season and I hope that I can come in and help us build on that. I’m really looking forward to heading out to Spain with the team and getting to work."
Sporting director Martin Ling added; "Sean has a lot of experience at this level and we believe that he still has his best years ahead of him. He is a very versatile player who can play at full-back, in midfield or at centre-back."
“We have watched him a lot over the last few years and have had some great character refences for him this summer. He carries the ball well from whatever position he plays in and can have a big impact at both ends of the pitch.”
Given his Ghanaian heritage the London-born defender remains eligible to switch allegiance and play for Ghana at the international stage.
