Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has slapped a staggering £30 million valuation on Ghanaian winger Kwame Poku as interest from Birmingham City intensifies ahead of the summer transfer window.

Despite Poku’s contract with Peterborough expiring this summer, the League One side are poised to receive a significant compensation fee for the 23-year-old, who remains under the age of 24. The attacker is widely expected to move on, with Birmingham City reportedly preparing to offer him a £30,000-a-week deal to lure him to St. Andrew’s.

Speaking on his Hard Truth podcast, MacAnthony revealed the club’s confidence in commanding a substantial tribunal-set fee for Poku, citing his performances, accolades, and interest from other clubs as key valuation factors.

“There are many things a tribunal takes into account when setting a transfer fee," MacAnthony said. “The offers we have already had are part of that—as are his appearances, his goals, the contract offer we have made him, and what we have paid in transfer fees ourselves, so we will still get millions and millions for him.”

Peterborough initially signed Poku from Colchester United in 2021 for £250,000, later paying an additional £500,000 in performance-related add-ons. Since then, the Croydon-born Ghana international has blossomed into one of the most electrifying talents in League One.

Despite battling injuries in the 2024/25 campaign, Poku delivered 12 goals and 11 assists in all competitions, earning a spot in the League One Team of the Season and claiming back-to-back Player of the Month awards in September and October. He was also voted Peterborough’s Players’ Player of the Season.

Peterborough had hoped to tie Poku down to a new deal and even tabled a club-record offer earlier in the campaign. However, MacAnthony now concedes that the winger is ready to move on to the next stage of his career.

“We did make him a club record offer, but he knows it’s time for him to go to the next level,” MacAnthony added. “Kwame probably won’t go to the Premier League straight away, but he will get a high-end Championship club. He will be a Premier League star in the future, and that next move will probably cost £30 million.”

Poku, who has one senior Ghana cap, is expected to finalize his next move in the coming weeks, with Birmingham City leading the chase for the highly-rated winger.
