Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Okraku has paid glowing tribute to supporters of the Black Stars after their narrow but vital 1-0 win over Mali in Accra.
Alexander Djiku’s goal was enough to seal three points on Monday night and move Ghana a step closer to the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The Accra Sports Stadium was a wall of noise on Monday night, with thousands rallying behind Otto Addo’s side in a contest that was as attritional as it was decisive.
Okraku took to Facebook after the game to thank fans for standing by the team following the disappointing 1-1 draw with Chad last week.
“Thank you Ghana! I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the good people of Ghana for the tremendous support shown to the Black Stars in our crucial encounter against Mali on Monday, 8th September 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium,” he wrote.
“It was a hard-fought battle on the pitch, and the energy, passion, and unyielding spirit of the 12th man in the stands made all the difference. Your voices, your cheers, and your unwavering belief lifted our team when it mattered most.
“On behalf of the players, technical team, and management, we say thank you, Ghana! Together, we will continue to prove that with unity and support, no challenge is insurmountable. Long live the Black Stars. Long live Ghana.”
The win leaves Ghana within touching distance of another World Cup appearance under Okraku’s leadership. Victory over the Central African Republic in Morocco next month could seal qualification before the Black Stars close their campaign against Comoros.
