Samuel Anim Addo's bid to retain his seat on the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) was unsuccessful at the GFA Congress in Tamale.
Anim Addo, the business manager of a former Ghanaian captain, sought to secure one of the three Division One representative positions on the council, having served for the previous four years. However, during the elections, he fell short of the required votes, finishing outside the top three among the five candidates.
Mark Addo, the vice president of the Association, topped the polls with 32 votes, securing his place on the council. He was closely followed by Gideon Fosu, who received 29 votes, one more than third-placed Eugene Nobel Amon Noel.
To the surprise of many, Anim Addo, who was considered one of the favorites for the election, received only 13 votes, placing him at the bottom of the rankings, behind Alexander Ababio, who garnered 15 votes.
While Anim Addo will have to wait for another four years to try his luck again, the three elected members from the Division One category will join five members who secured the five Premier League slots on the executive council: Dr. Randy Abbey, Frederick Acheampong, Nana Oduro Sarfo, James Kwesi Appiah, and Kingsley Osei Bonsu. They will also be joined by Gifty Oware Mensah, who received overwhelming support to become the women's football representative on the council.
Earlier in the Congress, Kurt Okraku was re-elected for a second term without opposition due to the disqualification of his competitor George Afriyie.
