Following a tumultuous turn of events at Asante Kotoko's training grounds, former striker Shilla Alhassan has voiced his support for the fans' protest, echoing their sentiments amid the club's disappointing season.
Amidst palpable tension, irate Kotoko supporters stormed the team's training session on Tuesday, disrupting proceedings and preventing head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum and his players from training. The demonstration underscored fans' frustration with the team's lackluster performance, characterized by seven defeats in their last nine Ghana Premier League matches.
In an interview with Kessben FM, Alhassan endorsed the fans' actions, asserting their right to demand change in light of the team's underwhelming results.
"Kotoko fans demanding the sack of Prosper Ogum are right if the results are not coming as expected. To me, the fans of the club did well by preventing Ogum and the team from training," Alhassan remarked.
Expressing his perspective on the situation, Alhassan suggested that Ogum should consider resigning given the team's struggles, drawing parallels to the coach's previous decision to step down during more successful periods.
"I think it will be prudent for Ogum to resign because things are not going as expected. If I were Ogum, I would have resigned from my role. I remember he did the same when he led the club to win the league title, so if things are not going well this time, he should do the same and call it quits," Alhassan opined.
As Asante Kotoko prepares to face log leaders Samartex in matchday 27 of the Ghanaian top-flight, all eyes are on the club's response to the recent upheaval.
Additionally, the imminent emergency meeting called by His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Life Patron of Asante Kotoko, signals a concerted effort to address the team's challenges and chart a path forward amidst adversity.
