Former Ghana international Dan Quaye has hailed Benjamin Asare as Ghana’s undisputed number one goalkeeper, insisting the Hearts of Oak captain has already proven his credentials for the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Asare has been a key figure in Ghana’s recent international fixtures, including the decisive 1-0 victory over the Central African Republic, which sealed the Black Stars’ qualification for the Mundial. At club level, he has demonstrated consistency for Hearts of Oak, keeping nine clean sheets in 12 Ghana Premier League matches this season.

Speaking to Bryt FM, Quaye emphasized that Asare’s performances have left little doubt about his standing.

“Asare has established himself as Ghana’s number one goalkeeper. He has nothing to prove before earning a place in the Black Stars,” Quaye said.

The former Black Stars defender also supported Hearts of Oak coach Didi Dramani’s rotation policy, explaining that rest is essential for Asare and that backup goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi deserves opportunities.

“I support Didi Dramani’s goalkeeper rotation policy because Asare needs rest. Sammy Adjei and Eben Dida competed at the top level at Hearts, and nothing happened. The rotation policy won’t be problematic for either Hearts of Oak or the Black Stars. Asare cannot play all games, and Agbasi has shown he can perform,” Quaye added.

With Ghana drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama for the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, the Black Stars are expected to field a strong squad, with Asare likely to play a pivotal role between the sticks.
