Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has emphasized the critical importance of Ghana’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar, describing victories in both matches as “urgent.”
Despite receiving backing from the Ghana Football Association and the government to continue in his role, Addo is aware that his position could be under threat if results do not go Ghana’s way. Pressure remains high following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, a disastrous campaign in which the Black Stars failed to win any of their six matches—marking their first AFCON absence in two decades.
In the buildup to the crucial fixtures, Addo has been rallying national support. He recently paid a courtesy visit to the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, calling for unity behind the team.
“Ghana urgently needs victories to qualify for the [2026] World Cup,” Addo stated. “We need the support of all Ghanaians, especially the Ga Chiefs, to help us in this task so the whole nation can be happy.”
The Black Stars will host Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, before traveling to Morocco to face Madagascar three days later.
Ghana currently sits level on points with Comoros at the top of their qualification group, with only the group winner securing an automatic place at the tournament in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
