The former Die Mannschaft international has added his voice to the growing calls for the inclusion of the English-born duo of Ghanaian heritage into the Black Stars squad for the global football event this year
Ex-Germany international Gerald Asamoah has urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to start approaching players in the diaspora at their youthful stage in order to ensure their smooth nationality switch to the Ghana national football team at the international level.
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup on the horizon, many football fans and enthusiasts across the length and breadth of the west African nation are clamouring for the invitation of English-born Ghanaian duo Eddie Nketiah and Callum Hudson-Odoi by the GFA technical handlers ahead of the start of the tournament.
Nonetheless, opinions are now divided over their inclusion into the national football team setup for the global football event after failing to co-operate over their approach at the initial stage during their peak era.

ln reacting over the above-mentioned remarks, the retired footballer believes establishing contacts with those players in the diaspora at their budding stage would help in the expedition of securing their nationality allegiance pledge by playing for the four-time African champions on the international stage.
Speaking in an interview, the former Schalke O4 man told 3Sports: ''We are waiting to see Kevin Prince Boateng here, and we go for him or Hudson-Odoi, and they say no we don't want to come because they didn't see how Ghanaians fought for them when they were young,” Asamoah said. “The British people did everything for them, and now they are done. They are now good players, and we want them. You need to start in the youth teams. You need to go there.”

He added: ''You don't need to go out. You have Internet. You have Wyscout. You can check all the players. You can check the Ghanaians. We need to do these things,” he said. “Don't sit down and wait when they get to U21 level, and you go: Do you want to play for Ghana? It is too late.''
Asamoah was born in Ghana but chose to represent the Germany national football team on the international stage during his playing career. He had 43 caps for the Die Mannschaft, with 6 goals to his name before calling time on his football career in 2015.
