Samuel Aboabire, an Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has urged the Black Stars to improve their performance after the team failed to secure qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

The Black Stars failed to qualify for the continental showpiece for the first time in 21 years, having scooped just three points from their six matches in Group F, which included Angola, Sudan, and Niger.

Speaking to Onua TV, Aboabire who doubles as the chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Football Association stressed the need for the players of the senior national team to strengthen their performance and qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“I will urge the Black Stars players to step up their performance," he said

”The GFA is under pressure following the Black Stars performance but [GFA] President Kurt Okraku has high expectations for the players.

“Ghana has been unlucky in 2024 when it comes to the national team performances but we hope for the best in 2025," Aboabire added.

Ghana will now shift their focus to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, as they have a bigger task ahead against Chad and Madagascar in their next two games in the global showpiece qualifiers in March, 2025.

In the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, the Black Stars are second in Group I with nine points.
