The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has given its National Juvenile Committee (NJC) the responsibility to screen all players taking part in national youth competitions.

The move is part of the GFA’s Power to the Youth policy which is aimed at improving grassroots football and protecting the integrity of youth tournaments.

The decision was approved at the GFA Executive Council meeting in January 2026 and was attended by all 10 Regional Football Association chairmen.

Under the new mandate, the NJC will check player eligibility, verify documents and make sure all players are properly registered across every age-grade competition in the country.

The committee, led by chairman Joe Salam Abubakar, will introduce strict screening processes to improve fairness, transparency and accountability.

These measures are expected to stop irregularities and ensure that only eligible players compete in official youth tournaments.

The GFA says the move is also part of a wider plan to improve youth football structures in Ghana and create a clear pathway for young talents to move from regional competitions to national teams and elite development programmes.
