Former Ghana international, Richard Kissi Boateng has warned about the deteriorating state of football in the country, calling for a quick rejuvenation.
The former Liberty Professionals and Berekum Chelsea defender comments come in the wake of the senior national team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), a setback that he believes has put a lot of pressure on our football industry.
During an interview with Pan-Africa Football, Kissi Boateng, who also played for TP Mazembe, emphasized the urgency for unified action to restore Ghana’s football to its former glory.
“It is a bad sign for the nation not to qualify for this event [AFCON] because that is what brings the nation together.
“Ghana has a lot of religions and we are from different tribes but in terms of football, you realize that we speak one language and football brings us together.
“So with this failure, it has put a lot of pressure on the society and even in our football industry. You can see that nothing is moving well when it comes to football in Ghana.
“Because you can see that we are failing and so they [Ghana Football Association] need to do something," he urged.
Meanwhile, with the World Cup qualifiers set to resume later this month, the Black Stars are second in Group I with nine points - Ghana will take on Chad and Madagascar.
The Black Stars will face Les Sao of Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, at 19:00 GMT before travelling to Morocco to clash with Madagascar at the Grand Stade d'Al Hoceima on March 24.
