The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has commenced a serious investigation into the alleged player impersonation involving Real Tamale United (RTU) in the Ghana Premier League outstanding game against Dreams FC on Wednesday.
The Tamale-based club faced Dreams FC using unregistered players, and the first team players skipped the game in protest of their unpaid salary and benefits.
Strangely enough, the roster sheet contained the names of first-team players who did not accompany the team to Dawu, which led to concerns about impersonation.
Following the shocking event that happened at Dawu Park, Real Tamale United has been charged by the Ghana Football Association with a breach of Section 34(6)(d) of the GFA Disciplinary Code, 2019, following their Ghana Premier League game against Dreams FC.
The usage of unregistered players and the purported impersonation are blatant transgressions of the league's regulations, and RTU's actions have damaged the reputation of the sport. The episode serves as a reminder of the larger problems at RTU, such as the unpaid salary and benefits that prompted the first team players to boycott.
Dreams FC crushed RTU 8-1, with five goals from Agyenim Boateng Mensah. RTU had already been relegated from the Ghanaian Premier League.
