The Ghana Football Association has postponed upcoming Ghana Premier League fixtures following the tragic death of Berekum Chelsea forward Dominic Frimpong, who was killed in an armed robbery attack on Sunday, April 12, 2026.

The 20-year-old winger lost his life when masked gunmen ambushed the club’s team bus on the Bibiani–Goaso road near Ahyiresu as the squad returned to Berekum from their Matchday 29 fixture against FC Samartex at the Nsenkyire Park in Samreboi.

The armed robbers blocked the highway and opened fire as the driver attempted to reverse, forcing players and officials to flee into nearby bushes for cover.

Frimpong suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Bibiani Government Hospital, the only reported casualty from the incident.

Frimpong had joined Berekum Chelsea on loan from Aduana FC in January for the rest of the 2025/26 season, scoring twice in 13 appearances. He had already featured in the Division One League with Attram De Visser Academy and Tudu Mighty Jets.

In response to the tragedy, the GFA has rescheduled league matches, stating: “Kindly be informed of a change in the schedule for Matchday 30 and Matchday 31 fixtures due to the unfortunate demise of Dominic Frimpong. Matchday 30 will now be played over the weekend of 1st to 3rd May 2026, while Matchday 31 will be played in midweek on 6th May 2026. Clubs are advised to take note and make the necessary arrangements accordingly.”

The country's football governing body has extended its heartfelt condolences to Frimpong’s family, teammates, and Berekum Chelsea, describing the incident as a huge loss to Ghana football as a whole.

The GFA confirmed it is working with the Ghana Police Service as investigations continue and has urged that all necessary measures be taken to ensure justice is served, while also pledging to engage stakeholders to review and strengthen security arrangements for clubs travelling for domestic competitions
