FIFA High-Performance Specialist Faisal Chibsah believes the appointment of Carlos Queiroz could signal a major turning point for the Black Stars, particularly in restoring discipline, structure, and a clear playing identity ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Ghana Football Association acted swiftly to replace Otto Addo following a disappointing run of four consecutive defeats in international friendlies, leaving little time to stabilise the team before the global tournament.
Queiroz, a vastly experienced coach with spells in Portugal and Egypt, has been handed a short-term four-month contract with the task of reorganising the team and guiding them through the World Cup.
Reacting to the appointment, Chibsah expressed confidence that the Portuguese tactician can address some of the team’s recent shortcomings, particularly in terms of discipline and tactical organisation.
“He will bring a bit of discipline to the team, which for me was lacking a lot. We would see that, and Ghana would definitely get an identity,” he told Joy News.
However, the former Black Stars midfielder cautioned that the job comes with significant expectations, noting that managing Ghana presents a different level of pressure compared to some of Queiroz’s previous roles.
“The challenge for Carlos now would be how adaptable he can be taking on Ghana. Iran, Oman, Qatar are not Ghana. Ghana, we expect more,” he added.
Ghana head into the World Cup with ambitions of reaching the knockout stage for the first time since 2010, but face a tough test in Group L against England, Croatia, and Panama.
