Athletic Bilbao centre-forward Iñaki Williams has received his debut call-up to the senior national team of Ghana after switching his international allegiance from Spain to the West African nation.
Ghana coach Otto Addo has named the prolific striker in his 29-man squad list for the upcoming international friendly games against Brazil and Nicaragua this month.
The 28-year-old was among six players who switched their international allegiance to Ghana. Williams, who was born in Bilbao to Ghanaian parents, was capped once by Spain.
Williams became the first black player to score in the club's 117-year history after netting against Torino in February 2015.
He grew up wanting to play for Spain and represented them at youth level, but after making his senior international bow for La Roja in 2015 in a 3-1 friendly win over Bosnia he found the door of the national team shut to him.
The 29-man squad includes Brighton defender Tariq Lamptey, Southampton FC’s Mohammed Salisu, Stephan Ambrosius of Karlsruher SC.
Ghana will play Brazil on Friday, September 23, at Stade Oceane in Le Harve- France before taking on Nicaragua at Estadio Francisco Artes Carrasco in Lorca, Spain on Tuesday, September 27, 2022.
