Patrick Kpozo, the defender for the Black Stars, expressed disappointment with his debut for the national team as they failed to secure a victory.
In the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Sunday, June 18, Ghana played a 1-1 draw against Madagascar, with Kpozo featuring for the entire game. He was given the opportunity to make his first appearance as a left-back in the absence of Gideon Mensah and Abdul Baba Rahman, and it was expected that he would prove his worth.
Unfortunately, Kpozo, along with the rest of the team, couldn't deliver a standout performance, and he acknowledged the implications of his display.
"It wasn't the one I was expecting," he said in an interview with CitiSports when asked about his thoughts on making his first appearance for the national team.
"I was expecting us to win but [we didn't]. I think it was okay.
"Everyone wants to be called to the national team and I feel proud being part of the Black Stars."
Kpozo now aims for consistent playing time with his club, which could potentially lead to his inclusion in the national team for the September assignment against Central Africa Republic. The Black Stars are striving to qualify for next year's AFCON, and Kpozo hopes to contribute to their campaign.
