English-born Ghanaian forward Daniel Agyei has expressed deep pride after earning his maiden call-up to the Ghana national football team, describing the opportunity as a “massive honour” and pledging to give everything for the shirt.
The 28-year-old Kocaelispor striker is among four debutants included in coach Otto Addo’s 26-man squad for Ghana’s upcoming international friendlies against Austria and Germany, which form part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana will face Austria national football team in Vienna on March 27 before travelling to Stuttgart to take on Germany national football team three days later.
Speaking after his call-up, Agyei said the selection represents the realisation of a lifelong ambition.
“It’s a massive honour to be called up to the Ghana national team. As a player you always dream of representing your country at this level, so to finally get the opportunity means everything to me, and I’m ready to do my all for the shirt,” he said, as quoted by sportsworldgh.
Agyei’s inclusion comes on the back of an encouraging season in the Turkish Süper Lig, where he has scored four goals in 22 league appearances for newly promoted Kocaelispor. One of his standout moments came in February, when he netted twice as a second-half substitute to inspire a 2-1 comeback win over Kayserispor.
Born in England to Ghanaian parents, Agyei developed through the English football system, featuring for clubs including Burnley, Leyton Orient, Crewe Alexandra, and Oxford United before making the switch to Turkey in July 2025. His ability to operate both as a forward and on the wing adds versatility to Ghana’s attacking options.
He joins fellow debutants Derrick Luckassen, Marvin Senaya, and Patrick Pfeiffer in the squad, while established names such as Inaki Williams, Thomas Partey, and Alexander Djiku also return to the team.
The upcoming friendlies are seen as key tests for the Black Stars as they build toward the 2026 World Cup, where Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.
