Ghana's Minister of finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has rejected claims made by immediate sector minister of finance Dr. Amin Adam that the previous government never collected betting tax.
Speaking on ChannelOne TV’s “The Point of View” on Wednesday evening, Dr. Forson gave a thorough breakdown on the National Budget he delivered during his first budget presentation on Tuesday, March 11, at Ghana's Parliament.
During his address, Dr. Forson stated that the 10% tax that is docked from respective earnings witnessed under the past administration, will be canceled by the current government.
However, in reaction to the budget presentation just after the presentation in the chamber of Ghana’s Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic, former Finance Minister Dr. Amin Adam, denied this assertion, blatantly 'lying' that the opposition New Patriotic Party administration never collected Betting Tax.
“It’s not true that the betting tax was never collected. They started sometime in 2023 August, I checked this morning,” Dr. Forson said.
