Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has met the Upper West Regional Minister, Hon. Charles Lwanga Puozuing Esq, to discuss football development, with a strong focus on youth and playing infrastructure.

The meeting took place at the Regional Coordinating Council in Wa on Tuesday, January 3, 2026, as part of the GFA president’s tour of the Upper West Region to engage key stakeholders.

During the meeting, President Simeon-Okraku thanked the Minister for his support and said the lack of good playing pitches remains a major concern across the region.

“I want to express my sincere gratitude for the warm reception and urge you to help push for infrastructure,” he said. “The youth of this region are crying for good pitches to play on. While the GFA will continue to offer its own level of support, we urge you to use your good office to help push for good playing surfaces. Everywhere I have been, this has been the clarion call.”

He added that the GFA is ready to work closely with government and other partners to use football as a tool for youth development, opportunity creation and unity.

Hon. Charles Lwanga Puozuing welcomed the GFA president and described the visit as important. He pledged his support for grassroots football and announced plans to sponsor Colts football in the region to help develop young talent.

The Minister also said he is open to proposals that will improve football infrastructure and called for continued cooperation between the GFA and government, noting football’s power to bring communities together.

President Simeon-Okraku was accompanied by officials including Upper West Regional FA Chairman Alhaji Sadugu Yahaya, GFA Chief of Staff Michael Osekre, Regional Football Coordinator Daseebre Adu Asare, Dreams FC president Jiji Alifoe Mohammed, and Senior Communication Manager Patrick Akoto.

The visit is part of the GFA’s wider effort to strengthen partnerships and promote sustainable football development across the country.
