Former Black Starlets head coach Laryea Kingston says Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku was disappointed with his decision to resign.

Kingston was appointed in April 2024 to lead Ghana’s Under-17 team ahead of the WAFU Zone B Championship. However, Ghana’s campaign ended in the semi-finals after a 2–1 defeat to Burkina Faso.

After the loss, Kingston surprised many by announcing his resignation at the post-match press conference. He later revealed that the decision had been taken even before the game.

Speaking to Fiifi Banson on Sporty Drive on Sporty FM, the former Black Stars winger said Kurt Okraku respected his decision but was not happy with it.

“Kurt Okraku was disappointed with my decision to leave my role as Black Starlets head coach. It was not about him, but my decision. I had made my decision to quit even before our final game,” Kingston said.

Kingston added that he asked to meet the GFA president to explain his reasons for stepping down.

“I requested to meet him, and he gave me the chance, and I explained why I resigned. Even though he welcomed my decision, he was disappointed,” he added.

Since leaving the Black Starlets, Kingston has worked in the United States and is now the head coach of Uganda’s youth national teams, where he is helping to develop young players and build a long-term football plan.
