Chairperson of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, Culture, and Tourism, Wisdom Kobena Woyome, has criticized Mustapha Ussif, labeling him the "worst-performing" Sports Minister.
Woyome’s remarks came after Ussif appeared before the committee on Tuesday, September 24, to address the Black Stars' underwhelming performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, where the team was eliminated in the group stage.
When questioned if he considered himself the worst Sports Minister, Ussif, who is also the Member of Parliament for Yagaba-Kubori, refuted the claim, saying, "I intend to disagree with your statement that I am the worst as a Minister. In terms of numbers, I don’t know which data you are using to determine that during my time it is the worst."
Despite Ussif's defense, Woyome, who is also the Member of Parliament for South Tongu, doubled down on his criticism in an interview with MAX FM, calling the Minister's performance "abysmal."
“I agree in the sense that his performance is so abysmal," he said. "I mean, we have not recorded such low points in our football and that we are also getting lots of bad names.
"That is why our rankings have become so low on the FIFA rankings. And so if nothing is bad, what about this one?” he quizzed.
