Badou Zaki, the head coach of the Niger national team, has expressed deep concerns over the recent decline in performance of Ghana's Black Stars.
Known for their historically robust presence in African football, the Black Stars are currently facing significant challenges that have prompted scrutiny from the Moroccan coach.
Zaki, speaking to Ghanasportspage.com, emphasized the stark contrast between the current Black Stars and their illustrious past.
“The Black Stars are renowned and often referred to as the 'Brazilians of Africa' due to their formidable lineup. With standout players like Seidu, Lamptey, and Partey, who perform in major European leagues, it's surprising to see their recent struggles. The team no longer feels like the powerhouse it once was,” Zaki stated.
The Moroccan coach reflected on Ghana's recent performances, noting a significant drop from their past glories. “We saw Ghana at the AFCON in Abidjan, and their performance was disappointing despite having a roster of talented players. Comparing that to their near-semi-final appearance at the 2010 World Cup, there is a glaring difference. The current team is lacking in both attack and defense,” he said.
Zaki also highlighted specific issues with the Black Stars’ defensive capabilities. “They are conceding too many goals. For instance, allowing three goals against the Central African Republic at home is unusual and concerning. Their tendency to concede goals frequently is a major issue.”
