Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo despite the loss to Japan says he’s learnt enough lessons from the game and it’s looking forward improving the team before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana suffered a 2-0 defeat to the Blue Samurai at the Toyota Cup on Friday morning in the Kirin Challenge Cup, thanks to two goals in each half from Takumi Minamino and Ritsu Doan.

Speaking in a post-match presser, Otto Addo says they couldn’t get the win but was somehow satisfied with the results as the starting XI he used yesterday looked relatively like a new side.

“There are still a few matches to prepare for the World Cup. So, I would like to learn enough from the players that played today. I think it’s too soon. I would like to make a lot of changes from today’s learning. But this time, it was a new set-up. Today’s team has rarely played together before.”

He further acknowledged how Japan players are well educated and thought to be respectful after Tanaka came to apologize to the team on the back of his incident with Abu Francis

“I really appreciate that the player (Tanaka) also comes not only to our player to say sorry for what happened but also comes to me as a coach.

“We don’t take this kind of behavior for granted. I think it’s very very good education here in Japan. And the players just to say sorry means a lot and I told him I really appreciate that.”

The Black Stars have already departed to Seoul to prepare for their final game of this international window against South Korea on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.
