The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is currently in negotiations to appoint a German coach as the Technical Advisor to the Black Stars' head coach, Otto Addo. Reports from Kumasi-based Pure FM suggest that discussions are progressing, with the two parties focusing on salary arrangements.
The prospective coach is reportedly seeking a monthly salary of $80,000, while the GFA has offered $60,000. Ace sports journalist Bright Kankam Boadu indicates that negotiations are ongoing, as the GFA aims to bring in an experienced technical figure to assist Addo.
GhanaWeb noted in October that the GFA has been searching for a seasoned coach to guide Addo. During a recent trip to Germany, GFA President Kurt Okraku held discussions with a German coach with the intention of enhancing the Black Stars' technical staff.
While it is understood that Addo will not be dismissed, the new German coach is expected to play a significant role due to his greater experience and skill. There is a prevailing sentiment within the GFA that the Black Stars' chances of succeeding in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations may be slim, prompting efforts to ensure qualification for the 2026 World Cup, which will take place in Mexico, Canada, and the United States.
Although the GFA is committed to retaining Otto Addo, there is a possibility that he could face dismissal if the Black Stars fail to qualify for the upcoming World Cup. Addo’s future has come under scrutiny following Ghana’s disappointing performance in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where the team has yet to secure a victory after four matches, recording two draws and two losses.
The Black Stars suffered a home defeat to Angola and lost away to Sudan on October 15, 2024, in Libya. They also drew against Sudan at home on October 10 and had another draw with Niger. Currently, Ghana sits in third place in their group with just two points, while Angola leads with ten points from four matches, and Sudan follows in second with seven points.
