Former Black Stars midfielder, Sulley Ali Muntari has criticized coach Otto Addo's decision to hand Kudus Mohammed the captain band now as he feels it's kinda a hasty decision.

The West Ham United attacker was named captain in the double header against Sudan last October in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers but didn't wear the armband in the final two games against Angola and Niger.

The former Inter Milan star heaped praises on Kudus and admitted he is currently the starman of the team and will surely captain one day but the idea of giving it to him few months back was a rushed one and didn't help him carry out the responsibility very well.

“Kudus, no matter what, is going to be the captain of the national team one day,” Muntari said in an interview with 3Sports.

“Let it be smooth for him, don’t just rush him. He doesn’t need the armband but he commands on the field. He carries the whole nation on his shoulder and he plays with us.

”So, what is your problem? You want to disturb him? I’m not saying you’ll worry him but let him be. Let him enjoy his football. Kudus has not yet seen his full potential. What we see is just a glimpse. Kudus is just amazing. As he continues to grow, he’ll be deadly,” he added.

The Black Stars will miss out on the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time since 2004 having failed to qualify from Group F that had Angola, Sudan and Niger and surprisingly won no game in the qualifiers series.

With three goals and two assists so far, Kudus Mohammed is currently not matching his own standard and will definitely look to lifting himself up as the season progresses.
