FC Midtjylland midfielder Alamara Djabi is in stable condition after surviving a serious stabbing incident in the Danish city of Herning on Sunday, the club has confirmed.
The 19-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries in the attack and underwent two emergency surgeries after being rushed to hospital. According to the club, Djabi was placed in an induced coma but has since regained consciousness and is recovering under close medical supervision.
In an official statement, FC Midtjylland described the incident as extremely serious and confirmed they are working closely with authorities while supporting the player and his family throughout his recovery.
“Alamara Djabi was subsequently in danger of dying and underwent emergency surgery. He has since undergone another operation, and after professional efforts from rescue personnel and hospital doctors, his condition is now stable. He has woken up from an induced coma and is doing well under the circumstances,” the club said.
Djabi, who holds Guinea-Bissau nationality, is a close friend of teammate Franculino Djú and both joined the Danish club in 2023. He has made two senior appearances for FC Midtjylland, including a recent outing in the Europa League qualifying round against Finnish side KuPS in August 2025.
Meanwhile, police in Central and West Jutland have launched a search for a 20-year-old suspect, Moussa Habib Jensen, in connection with the stabbing. Authorities confirmed on Tuesday morning that the suspect remains at large as investigations continue.
“He is still at large. The search has not yielded the results we had hoped for, and we are still investigating,” said Susanne Kiel Nielsen, police commissioner in Herning.
The incident has shocked Danish football, with Djabi now focused on recovery after what officials described as a narrowly avoided fatal attack.
