President of Ghana, H.E John Dramani Mahama, has urged newly-appointed Minister of Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams to ensure authorities of all sports disciplines in the country will work with transparency and professionallism from now henceforth.

The Parliament of Ghana couple of days ago approved the appointment of Member of Parliament (MP) for Buem Constituency as new minister for Sports and Recreation for the country for the next four years.

The decision followed a rigorous debate and voting process on the floor of the House, reflecting the legislature’s commitment to thorough scrutiny of executive appointments.

Adams, a former National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), brings extensive experience to the role, with a mandate to revitalize the sports sector and promote recreational activities nationwide.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the fourth batch of the ministers of which Kofi Adams happens to be part, John Dramani Mahama tasked him to ensure everything in sports is done in a transparent way and also tasked him to start from the country's highest football governing body, the Ghana Football Association.

He furthered on by also charging him to help get the senior men national team - Black Stars back on track and restore back their glory days.

“The Honourable Kofi Iddie Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation, I don’t envy your job. You have the monumental task of restoring Ghana to its pride of place in African and world sports. The shambles that is Ghana sports today is completely unacceptable for a country our pedigree and I expect you inject transparency, professionalism and modernity into the management of the sector. I expect that you concentrate on building up all the sports disciplines and I know the Ghana Football Association would be a good place to start and to make sure we return Black Stars to it glory days."

He replaces Mustapha Ussif, who served as Minister of Youth and Sports from 2021 to 2024 under the Nana Akufo-Addo administration.

With a wealth of experience in both education and politics, Adams brings a diverse skill set to the role.
