Former Ghanaian international, Charles Taylor is in a very huge doubt that the Black Stars will excel and make waves at the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup which will be held in three North American countries; USA, Canada and Mexico in the summer.
The four-time African champions are still putting things in place in order to have adequate preparations for the big tourney coming up, which will be their fifth at the ‘Coppa Mundial.’
The Ghana FA as part of the preparations have strengthened the Black Stars’ technical team recently with the appointment of five new members hoping to bring in a lot on board to aid head Otto Addo get the team in the right shape before June.
However, Charles Taylor, who has played for the senior national team previously, still feels it’s not enough to warrant a good run at the World Cup.
He further stated we need an experienced gaffer to lead the team and added most of our players are also not in the best of shape at the moment as some are still nursing their injuries while others are yet to find their best form
Who is our coach going to the World Cup? I believe we need an experienced coach," he told Sporty FM.
“Some of our players are not even in good shape at the moment. I am not sure of our chances because people are saying we will beat Panama, which I find strange.
“We are not doing well at the moment, and it is my concern. We have spent money to bring new people to join the technical team. Why didn't we spend that money on hiring an experienced coach?" he added.
Ghana is placed in Group L alongside 1966 champions England, 2018 finalists Croatia and Panama.
The team will regroup next month to take on Austria and Germany in two highly rated pre- World Cup friendlies in the March international window.
