Asante Kotoko passed one of the most difficult examinations of their Ghana Premier League credentials yet as they fought to triumph 2-0 over a spirited Aduana side at Nana Agyemang Badu Park.
A tantalising battle in terrible Dormaa conditions saw young left-back Patrick Asiedu drawn first blood thanks to an all-too familiar sublime free-kick in the 12th minute.
However, who else but Aduana would save Kotoko’s dreaded performance for sometime, as the 21-year-old conjured up a brilliant goal before the Porcupine Warriors scored again in the 51st minute through Albert Amoah to propel the Kumasi giants to the 7th spot with 18 points of the table.
Refusing to shy away from their high-risk approach despite the calibre of opposition, Aduana tried to play out from the back at every opportunity, but it took just one mishap for Prosper Ogum’s side to slice first through the Fire of Aduana.
Kotoko failed to make the most of further opportunities in the Aduana third, though, and the Reds were also in a giving mood at Dormaa.
Any attempt at a wake-up call from Ogum at half time appeared to fall on deaf ears, as Kotoko were caught cold on the counter-attack at the start of the second half, where they were nearly punished, but Aduana’s attackers failed the move to turn around the scoreline.
The Porcupine Warriors 61st minute strike was seemingly the rude awakening that the visitors needed, as the inevitable Albert Amoah benefitted from some more questionable goalkeeping from Masawudu Inusah to score the visitors second goal, as Amoah did what he does best to complete a sensational victory.
While the Porcupines have once again taken advantage of another Aduana slip-up as they managed a 1-1 draw at Nsoatreman last Saturday, Yaw Acheampong’s Aduana remain at the 14th position of the division with twelve points to their name and are one point above of the red zone.
